Laura Mulvey wrote about the film industry and we can apply her theory to music videos as well. Her theory is to do with the concept of 'the male gaze' which is the idea that orginated from traditional film but can be applied now, that the people 'behind the camer', so directiors, producers and camera men were all men and so therefore the women in front of the camera were objectified and sexualised. Male characters are much more developed whilst females aren't. This links into the idea of voyerism which is the pleasure others get from watching others have sex. This can be applied to music videos when women are showna acting in a sexual way or dressed in clothes which others could imagine in a sexualised way.
Videos which fit this idea include; Brittany Spears 'Toxic'
