Cold play are a four person pop rock band who have been highly successful and released 8 albums and been nominated for and recieved many awards. Their fith album, mylo xyloto, was released in 2011 and a magazine ad for this album is shown to the right.
This ad promotes the album as modern and alternative. The bright, contrasting colours represent moderninity and the grraffiti targets the attention of the younger generation as they are more likely to enjoy making and viewing grafitti walls.
The name of the album and the name of the band are written with just the outline of the sans serif font and you can see the background behind it. This shows that the focus of the album isn't on the name and the band but more the actual music and the theme of it.
The advert lets you know where you can buy and access the album which is useful information to be able to gather at a glance of the advert in the magazine. It also offers information about preordering which could increase sales once again.
Much like other inide rock/pop bands the main image of the poster isn't of the artists face looking straight at the camera but an arty image that will appeal to an 'indie' audience. This advert is used to promote the album to people who already like and follow their music aswell as enticing new audiences through the appearance of the ad and this could potentially boost album, singles and tour sales which will make them more money and allow them to grow in popularity.
